My Favorite Memories

I started a scrapbook a few years ago with some of my favorite photos taken over the years. As the years go by (more years than I like to admit) I realize it's going to have to continue digitally. Although I mentioned to the kids the other day that next winter I am starting the 'next generation scrapbook' and that it was probably going to have to be digital and surprisingly they objected! They want a scrapbook, although I immediately realize they don't realize how much work it is.........(of course they are worth the effort)

So where do I begin?  Maybe it doesn't matter I am thinking just a collection of favorite photos  and memories that are collected along the way.  After all, that's what photos do for me, they are a memory bank, they evoke thoughts I had forgotten about completely. So when I look back at photos they make me smile with the reruns.

Like this first photo of a California Poppy? Taken on Salt Spring Island 2010 on a trip with a dear friend of mine Carol. We stayed at the Harbour House Hotel and it had rained the previous evg. I hurried out the following morning to the flower beds around the hotel and found several beautiful subjects.....(beautiful to me...)
Lavender

Of course early morning light after a rain, you don't have to look far.
Even in my own garden at home after a rain beauty is easy to find.

My Mother's white Peony

Already, looking for the next photo, I am reliving my holidays, trips, don't know where to start! plants, kids, dogs!!!!!

Here we go...

 Favorite photo..
Favorite mountain..
Castle mountain located at junction of Highway 1 and 93 Alberta. Even more beautiful in the rain.

I can't remember the mountain
but the reflections attracted me. Near the Rogers Pass snow sheds.

 There are times when
land water and sky are all one.

There are times when you use
any excuse to stop on the side of the road.
or go down a road less traveled. Just to see
birds perched on a horses rump.

This photo evoked another memory of a picnic spot just outside of Cathedral Forest on the island. We had decided it was the perfect spot for lunch. It was my birthday and just the moment we sat down my cell phone rang (didn't always have reception) and it was Elsie calling from the hospital in Sask. after her knee surgery to wish me Happy Birthday. What a wonderful wonderful memory....We then ran into a community can't remember the name, goats on the roof! and bought myself a Matalese bedspread for my birthday present.

Perfect spot for lunch

There are times  when land and sea are one

If I remember correctly, this was about 5 AM......it pays to get up that early.....
Carol would have missed this altogether if it were not for my photo  ;-)

Not even focused
but beautiful...
Right spot at the right time...
Memory!
Just rolling over in bed dozing
and I saw the moon pop up over
the water.....

(of course the curtains were open)

The difficulty I am having in choosing photos is sometimes the memory it creates may be better than the photo and that is hard to reject.

All you really have to do
is find an old fence-post
and you have a photo.

The light this day was beautiful
As always in southern Alberta
you have the winds creating
their own story with the clouds.

As always my horizons are crooked.
but it's OK ;-)
Waterton Lake

I love the blues and purples created by our world.  Alberta or BC the
calming colors draw me in..

To be honest, I can't remember if this is Ruth's or my photo!  I remember her finding it and as always we share the idea. At second glance it must be mine the horizon is crooked!

And as always this is the end of the holidays...the Road Home....Highway 22 Cowboy Trail

Homeward Bound

Not a wonderful photo other than the memory it creates.
A hike for Ruth and I to the Great Divide, Kicking Horse Pass BC
A trip I wanted to make for a few years to duplicate a 60 yr. old family photo. A bucket list success! Thanks Ruth.

My favorite wild flower Dryad forest. love this photo...

Not planned but once I organized these railway spikes, I had to record them.
Tempted to bring one home but I don't think it would fit in scrapbook! I may have to go back for one..

This blog seems to be meandering about from holidays to Heather's spot and back again...
Just keep following along!

Heather's spot in the world.....My family moved to Bowness at 1613 Alexander Ave.
in November 1953. It was anexed by the City of Calgary in the early 60's and became
8015-36 Ave. N.W. Mom and Dad passed away by early 80's and I moved back into the house. Originally with the kids but they were soon on their own and the house became just the right size for me....This photo of course was taken in the spring when the lilacs and the Hawthorne tree are in full bloom....

But also beautiful in the winter after a snowfall...I used this touch up for a xmas card one year....Kinda cute....

And of course we have to have a fall photo.....There is colour in Alberta.....

I love my little spot........

Then if your at my spot already, may as well have some photos of my garden!

Can't remember what
these are called.....they
are beautiful...

The difficulty in choosing favorites continues to be how to choose between the good
photo and the great memory.........

 This trip to Kananaskis
Highway 40 through to the
Highwood Pass was taken
around 2001, It was a trip taken with Jeanne an old
friend of mine that has since
passed, which makes the
memories treasured. We had
taken off for the day, without kids, responsibilities, chores, an escape with our cameras.

This photo was actually used
on a rock which still stands on my windowsill.

This photo also was used on a rock....A rock that must be from this area as the background blends right in.....Might be my favorite......

Livingstone Falls area, with a very young Oliver and a younger Heather
This photo was taken by Ruth on yet another escape with our cameras.....
Thank goodness for friends. I can honestly admit, going through photos'
makes me realize how I treasure my old friends, how I appreciate their sharing my
passion for road trips, photography, and picnics.

My Garden Treasure Peeking out from behind.

The Road Less Traveled!

I appear to be pulling these out from everywhere! lost complete order. which in actual fact is how most of my files seem to have become...The order is not bad, but duplicates etc...

Mom's Hawthorne tree in front yard.

I never seem to tire of taking photos of garden flowers.

The Simple Pansy

The first requirement of all my cameras when purchasing was to be able to get clarity.
In other words, capture the hairs!

Yukon hairy Crocus......

Yukon Drayds

Yukon twinflowers

My favorites from all over my travels.......how lucky I have been......to have even collected favorites.....

Yukon Bluebells

I find myself doing some homework on my files this morning....before Easter Dinner at Jody's with John as a guest this year.. and another bonus to the day is finding photos I had completely forgotten about....

Phyl named this Heather's Slew

I fell in love with this spot over the time I was there....took many photos of it during daylight, evg. smoky times, sunsets etc.......so it became mine.
 And so it should be.......

Lupin after a rain

Very unusual to find white Fireweed. I had seen photos in the books but in our travels we only saw this one batch on our way to Haines Alaska.....and the weeds around it had been trampled, so I wasn't the first to find it......

Phyl's mushrooms, some almost 12`` across....

Oops, I find it easy to forget this not so little blog....but this winter (today is -17 and snow!) I have decided to use the time to update and get caught up....I don't want to lose any memories. Life is good right now and we so have to appreciate and count our blessings...

Two Yukon Cubs

So as I recap my travel blogs it is a reminder of my favorite photos....

My favorite spot Lake OHara

I am finding it very difficult choosing the favorite photo.....maybe I shouldn't be worried about limits ;-)

May 2020

Oh My Goodness I haven't updated this blog in a long time.
I happened to need an escape  on a Sunday afternoon and drove out towards the west on the Cowboy Trail (Highway 22) and down some roads I don't know the names and have never taken the opportunity to meander down. This was the day, got lost, good thing Meg has a directional indicator.....

Love the storm clouds.....I could go on ......

The Cochrane, Sundre AB. area is prime for great storm clouds....
